In small business, personal use is all to prevalent. Personal use occurs when assets of the company are used for personal benefit of the owner.
The Duke Law Journal states that “Alter ego is found if there is such a unity of interest and ownership that individuality or separateness has ceased.”
When it is determined that a business entity is merely an extention of an individual, that individual can become subject to any litigation and liability of that entity.
